WCMS General Session – Tuesday, November 8, 2011

WCMS Members –

This is a reminder that our next General Session is scheduled for Tuesday, November 8, 2011. The program is being held at the Ann Arbor City Club, 1830 Washtenaw Avenue, Ann Arbor. The Social hour will begin at 6:00 p.m., Dinner at 6:45 p.m., and the program at 7:30 p.m.

The evening’s program is on “Translational Research: What is it and how does it affect the practicing physician.” Kenneth J. Pienta, MD, Professor of Internal Medicine and Urology; Director of Experimental Therapeutics, Michigan Center for Translational Pathology; Principal Investigator, Specialized Program of Research Excellence in Prostate Cancer, University of Michigan Health System, will be the featured speaker.

The Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The MSMS designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurses: The ACCME is approved by the Board of Nursing as an acceptable provider of continuing education for license renewal or relicensure.

The following are the educational objectives of the program:

  • Physicians will be able to define translational research.
  • Physicians will be able to identify the various roadblocks in bench to bedside research.
  • Physicians will be able to differentiate between the major risks in bridging the translational gap.
  • Physicians will be able to identify steps they can take to help with the flow of information from clinical practice back to bench research.

The general session is supported by the Washtenaw County Medical Society and the MSMS Physicians Insurance Agency.
